In kraftvollen, expressiven und gro\u00dfformatigen Bildern malt sie die Comic-Figuren und Comic-Helden der amerikanischen Popul\u00e4rkultur. Das Konterfei von Batman, den Simpsons, von Southpark oder Elmo aus der Sesamstrasse und Mickey Mouse pulsieren in schwarz -wei\u00dfer Lackfarbe \u00fcber den Leinwandrand. Mit dynamischem und breitem Pinselstrich, der die Farbe in ungeb\u00e4ndigter Geschwindigkeit \u00fcber die Leinwand zieht und damit auch \u00fcber den Bildraum spritzt, erschafft sie eine Bilderwelt, die an die amerikanische Malerei der Art Brut und deren Vorbild Willem de Kooning oder die abstrakten Expressionisten wie Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline und Philip Guston erinnern l\u00e4sst. Die in Schichten wild aufgetragene und sich \u00fcbermalende, metallisch gl\u00e4nzende Lackfarbe erg\u00e4nzt diesen Effekt und gibt den Sujets und Bilden ihre humorvolle wie auch d\u00fcstere Wirkung. Auf die Frage hin, warum sie diese Charaktere verwendet, antwortet sie, dass diese eben der jungen Generation sehr nahe sind und gro\u00dfe Sympathie hervorrufen. Pensato versucht sich nicht in einem politischen oder gar feministischen Kanon zu positionieren. Im Gegensatz dazu wird das Werk der \u00fcber 70-j\u00e4hrigen zu einem eindringlichen Spiegel amerikanischen Gegenwartskultur, die sich in Populismen aufl\u00f6st und zum Abziehbild des amerikanischen Traums geworden ist. Der Kunstraum Innsbruck zeigt mit Later is Now die erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung der amerikanischen K\u00fcnstlerin Joyce Pensato in Europa.
