Als f\u00fchrender Vertreter der humanistischen Fotografie und mit knapp sechzig Jahren Mitgliedschaft ist Davidson (*1933) einer der prominentesten Fotografen der Agentur Magnum Photos. Die legend\u00e4re Fotografenkooperative, 1947 gegr\u00fcndet von Robert Capa, Henri Cartier\u2010 Bresson, George Rodger und David \u201eChim\u201c Seymour, feiert heuer ihren siebzigsten Geburtstag. Davidson geh\u00f6rt zu den pr\u00e4gendsten Fotografen der Agentur, wie kaum ein anderer hat er mit seinen Reportagen \u00fcber Subkulturen und marginalisierte Lebenswelten dem Genre die Richtung gewiesen. Die Ausstellung bietet einen \u00dcberblick seines gesamten, mehr als f\u00fcnf Jahrzehnte umspannenden Schaffens, bis hin zu seinem j\u00fcngsten Projekt Nature of Los Angeles. Im Zentrum stehen seine bekanntesten Serien, darunter Brooklyn Gang, East 100th Street und Time of Change: Civil Rights Movement. Davidsons leidenschaftliche Beziehung zur Fotografie begann bereits im Alter von zehn Jahren. Seine Arbeiten sind weniger durch einen bestimmten Stil beeinflusst, vielmehr ist es der pers\u00f6nliche Blick auf die Realit\u00e4t, der sein Werk \u00fcber das Einzelbild hinaus kennzeichnet und sich in der Wiederholung und Gegen\u00fcberstellung von Themen und Charakteren manifestiert. Zu den Menschen in Davidsons Bildern entsteht eine fast intime Beziehung, erm\u00f6glicht durch die charismatische Pr\u00e4senz des Fotografen, dem die Portr\u00e4tierten vertrauen und Zugang in ihr Leben gew\u00e4hren, selbst wenn es um kontroverse Themen geht. Davidsons Werk ist so auch ein moralisches Bekenntnis zur rauen Wirklichkeit des Alltags und den prek\u00e4ren Umst\u00e4nden, in denen sich seine Protagonisten bewegen. [Westlicht.
