Sein vielf\u00e4ltiges, tiefgr\u00fcndiges und zugleich ironisches \u0152uvre umfasst nahezu alle Gattungen und erweitert den Skulpturbegriff um interaktive, soziale sowie zeitliche Aspekte. Selbst das Folgen von Handlungsanweisungen kann bei Wurm zur Skulptur werden. In der Radikalit\u00e4t seines Strebens nach Ausdehnung der herk\u00f6mmlichen Kategorisierungen erinnert Erwin Wurm an Marcel Duchamp, der das experimentelle, visuelle Denken zum k\u00fcnstlerischen Programm erkl\u00e4rte und damit der Kunst neue Wege \u00f6ffnete. Um 1990 fand der K\u00fcnstler mit den Perfor-mativen Skulpturen \u2013 ein Begriff, den Wurm f\u00fcr sich allein beansprucht \u2013 eine neue Aus-drucksform. Die Einzelausstellung im 21er Haus umfasst rund 40 performative Skulpturen und Plastiken, darunter eine Reihe neuer Werke, die Wurm eigens f\u00fcr die Schau erarbeitet hat. In seinen j\u00fcngsten Arbeiten setzt sich Erwin Wurm mit herausragenden Beispielen der Archi-tektur und Objekten des t\u00e4glichen Gebrauchs auseinander. Ausgangsbasis sind Modelle und Bl\u00f6cke aus Ton, die in der Regel von Wurm selbst oder von Personen, die er instruierte, gezielt bearbeitet werden. Spannung entsteht im Dialog zwischen der Urform und den Spuren, die die performativen Eingriffe hinterlassen. Der K\u00f6rper wird dabei zum Material und Medium von Handlungsvollz\u00fcgen.
