Die 70 Portr\u00e4ts des wegweisenden Vertreters der Neuen Sachlichkeit und Pioniers der dokumentarisch-konzeptuellen Fotografie sind in dieser Zusammenstellung zum ersten Mal in \u00d6sterreich zu sehen. Es handelt sich dabei um das Reenactment einer Ausstellung, die der Fotograf 1963, ein Jahr vor seinem Tod, noch selbst kuratiert hatte. WestLicht-Vorstand Peter Coeln: \u201eAugust Sander ist einer der ganz Gro\u00dfen und hat die Fotografie revolutioniert, vergleichbar mit Alexander Rodtschenko oder Edward Steichen. Sein Portr\u00e4t einer Gesellschaft im Wandel ist gerade heute hochaktuell.\u201c Im Fokus der Ausstellung steht der epochale Portr\u00e4tzyklus Menschen des 20. Jahrhunderts, den Sander Mitte der 1920er-Jahre entwickelte und in einer ersten Fassung unter dem Titel Antlitz der Zeit publizierte. \u201eSein Konzept einer fotografischen Gesellschaftsanalyse mittels vergleichender und unmittelbarer <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-14168\" title=\"August Sander Corpsstudent 1925 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.kunstinvestor.at\/aktuell\/wp-content\/uploads\/Unbenannt4-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"382\" \/>Beobachtung zielte auf ein umfassendes Sozialportr\u00e4t der Weimarer Republik ab\u201c, fasst WestLicht-Chefkuratorin Rebekka Reuter zusammen. \u201eFotografie verstand er als universelle Weltsprache.\u201c Eingeteilt in sieben Gruppen, stellt der Bilderatlas Vertreter_innen unterschiedlicher Gesellschaftsschichten und Berufsgruppen neben-einander \u2013 vom Arbeitslosen bis zum Gro\u00dfindustriellen, von der Bildhauerin bis zur Putzfrau, vom Corpsstudenten bis zum Boh\u00e9mien. Sander verdichtet charakteristische Merkmale in Haltung, Gestik und Kleidung zu einer Reflexion des Individuellen in Beziehung zum Typischen. Sein physiognomisches Zeitbild beleuchtet das Verh\u00e4ltnis von Mensch und Gemeinschaft. Sander hat sein Mappenwerk immer wieder bearbeitet. Sein universalistischer Ansatz ist dabei auch ein demokratischer und rationaler Gegenentwurf zu anderen Fotoprojekten der Zwischenkriegszeit, die Gemeinschaft elit\u00e4r als Parade gro\u00dfer Denker und Lenker entwerfen oder v\u00f6lkisch entlang von Blut-und-<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Boden-Kategorien konstruieren.
