Vertreten sind Werke von ihren fr\u00fchen vom Surrealismus beeinflussten Fotografien von Kreidezeichnungen, \u00fcber ihre 1941 entstandenen Aufnahmen aus Mexiko bis hin zu den 1938 von Walker Evans angeregten, heimlich aufgenommenen Portr\u00e4ts von Passagieren in der New Yorker U-Bahn. Helen Levitt (1913\u20132009) ist eine der wichtigsten Vertreterinnen der Street-Photography. Als leidenschaftliche Beobachterin und Chronistin des New Yorker Stra\u00dfenlebens fotografiert sie ab den 1930er-Jahren die Bewohner_innen der armen Stadtviertel, wie etwa Lower East Side, Bronx und Harlem. Mit einem Blick f\u00fcr surreale und ironische Details h\u00e4lt sie \u00fcber viele Jahrzehnte die Menschen in dynamischen Kompositionen fest: Spielende Kinder, posierende Passant_innen und diskutierende Paare. Ihre unsentimentale Bildsprache er\u00f6ffnet ein humorvolles und theatralisches Schauspiel abseits moralischer und sozial-dokumentarischer Klischees. Revolution\u00e4r ist Helen Levitt auch in ihrer Farbfotografie. Bereits 1959 etabliert sie Farbe als k\u00fcnstlerisches Ausdrucksmittel und z\u00e4hlt somit zu den fr\u00fchesten Vertretern der New Color Photography. Levitt war 1974 die erste Farbfotografin, die im Museum of Modern Art eine Ausstellung erhielt. Dauer bis 27.
