Das Foto ist Teil eines gr\u00f6\u00dferen Projekts zum Thema Homophobie in Russland. Eine j\u00e4hrlich wechselnde, in diesem Jahr aus 17 Mitgliedern bestehende internationale Jury beurteilt die Einsendungen von Fotograf-Innen, Agenturen, Zeitungen und Magazinen aus aller Welt. Die ausgezeichneten Einzelaufnahmen und Fotoserien lassen das vergangene Jahr als spannende Zeugnisse der Zeitgeschichte Revue passieren und zeigen auf eindringliche Weise Ereignisse aus den Bereichen Politik, Kultur, Gesellschaft, Sport und Natur. Am diesj\u00e4hrigen Wettbewerb um die besten Pressefotos des Jahres 2014 nahmen 5.692 Pressefotografen aus 131 L\u00e4ndern teil. Die Jury w\u00e4hlte aus 97.912 Arbeiten aus und vergab Preise in acht Kategorien an 41 Fotografen aus 17 L\u00e4ndern: Australien, Bangladesch, Belgien, China, D\u00e4nemark, Eritrea, Frankreich, Deutschland, Iran,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9361\" title=\"Foto: \u00a9 Westlicht: 2. Nach den Richtlinien der World Press Photo Foundation m\u00fcssen die Fotos des Jahres von \u201egro\u00dfer fotojournalistischer Bedeutung\u201d sein und sich durch \u201eau\u00dferordentliche Qualit\u00e4t der visuellen Perzeption und Kreativ-it\u00e4t\u201d auszeichnen. Wesentliche Kriterien sind demnach neben dem Nachrichtenwert eines Bildes die spezifi-sche Wahrnehmung und Herangehensweise der FotografInnen. J\u00e4hrlich sehen mehr als drei Millionen Menschen in 45 L\u00e4ndern die World Press Photo Wanderausstellung. 2014 hatte sie bei WestLicht \u00fcber 23.000 BesucherInnen. Heuer findet die Ausstellung hier bereits zum 14. Mal statt. Die Aktivit\u00e4ten umfassen j\u00e4hrliche Wettbewerbe f\u00fcr visuellen Journalismus, Ausstellungen und in der World Press Photo Academy die F\u00f6rderung des Fotojournalismus durch Fortbildungsprogramme. Au\u00dferdem sorgen zahlreiche Ver\u00f6ffentlichungen f\u00fcr mehr Sichtbarkeit der Pressefotogra-fie.
