Es scheint, als g\u00e4be es kein selbstverst\u00e4ndliches Muttersein mehr, nur Perfektion oder Verzicht. Doch die Mutterrolle hat viele Facetten: Freude, intensive Lebenserfahrung, Liebesbeziehung, Lernen, \u00dcbermut \u2013 aber auch Frust, Erwartungsdruck und Versagensangst. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde Mutterschaft kaum in Frage gestellt, auch wenn die \u00dcberh\u00f6hung des Muttergl\u00fccks im krassen Gegensatz zur Realit\u00e4t stand. Erst mit Karrierem\u00f6glichkeiten f\u00fcr Frauen entstanden Alternativen zur Mutterschaft als Ziel eines erf\u00fcllten Lebens. Schwangerschaft, Geburt, Abtreibung, das Leben mit Kindern, die Entscheidung gegen Kinder, die Auseinandersetzung der Kinder mit ihren M\u00fcttern \u2013 alle diese Themen werden von K\u00fcnstlerinnen und K\u00fcnstlern aufgenommen. Nicht erst die feministische Kunst der 1960er-Jahre zeichnet realistische Bilder der Mutterrolle, sondern bereits am Beginn des Jahrhunderts entstehen Darstellungen sozialer Wirklichkeit und individueller Konflikte. Die Ausstellung zeigt den Wandel der M\u00fctterbilder von 1900 bis heute und die Verschiebung des Blicks der Kinder auf ihre M\u00fctter. Sie stellt die Optimierungslogik heutiger Lebensentw\u00fcrfe zur Diskussion und macht Hoffnung auf eine Wende: Immer mehr Frauen mit Kindern widersetzen sich den komplexen, oft stressigen Anforderungen des Alltags, hinterfragen ihre Lebenswelt zwischen Karriere, Kindern und Konsum.
