Bis dato lebte, arbeitete und studierte er auf f\u00fcnf Kontinenten und segelte auf drei Ozeanen. Seine Kunst entspringt aus diesen multikulturellen Erfahrungen. Tom\u2019s Kunst basiert auf der Zen und Islamic Kalligraphie. Da er sich jedoch mit den chinesischen oder den arabischen Schriftzeichen emotional nicht verbunden f\u00fchlt, hat er seine eigene, einzigartige Form der asemischen Schrift entwickelt, welche die Dimensionen verkr\u00fcmmt und verdreht und unsere Wahrnehmung herausfordert. Tom Venning liebt Live Malerei-Performance und bekannt daf\u00fcr, in Nachtclubs, bei Festivals und live zu Musik und Kaufh\u00e4usern zu malen. Tom Venning benutzte die TU Wien als B\u00fchne f\u00fcr seine intensive Malerei-Performance Ikarus. \u00dcber f\u00fcnf Tage lang widmet er sich zeichnerisch einer futuristischen Cyborg-Version des Ikarus-Themas; \u201eIkarus und sein Vater Daedalus waren auf Kreta gefangen. Um zu entkommen baute Daedalus Fl\u00fcgel aus Wachs und Federn. Daedalus warnte davor, nicht zu nahe an der Sonne zu fliegen, aber von der Freude des Fliegens \u00fcberw\u00e4ltigt, schnellte Ikarus gegen den Himmel. Die Sonne lie\u00df seine Fl\u00fcgel schmelzen, er fiel ins Meer und ertrank. Die Bedeutung der Ikarus-Geschichte warnt vor \u00fcberm\u00e4\u00dfigem Ehrgeiz und Selbst\u00fcbersch\u00e4tzung.\u201c Tom Veninngs meditativer, rhythmischer, kin\u00e4sthetischer Zeichenstil steht im krassen Gegensatz zur Geschwindigkeit wissenschaft-lichen Fortschritts und der Betriebsamkeit des modernen Lebens. Toms Ansatz verdeutlicht seine Sehnsucht nach Meisterschaft und den Willen sich zu fokussieren, zwei Charakteristiken, die in der westlichen Welt h\u00e4ufig vernachl\u00e4ssigt werden. Seine Arbeiten dokumentieren auch, wie unterschiedliche Kulturen und Epochen Wissen und Weisheit entwickelt haben. In seiner Zeichnung werden wissenschaftliche Details in ihrer grafischen Korrektheit und anatomischen Darstellung mit altert\u00fcmlichen Formen der Weisheit und religi\u00f6sen Symbolen verbunden und pr\u00e4sentieren durch den kalligraphischen Stil der Zeichen-Performance neue Interpretationen.
